The queer skirts of male train drivers in Stockholm
Skirts are a cool option when the weather gets hot (Martin Åkersten, Swedish train driver).
Stockholm, June 2013
A group of 13 male train drivers working for the Roslagsbanan line in Stockholm has rebelled against a ban on wearing shorts in summer by turning up for work in skirts.
This queer protest against the train company’s uniform policy – the prohibition to wear shorts -, has been a positive response from customers and from the train company too.
Skirts are a perfectly acceptable alternative. To say anything else would be discrimination (Tomas Hedenius, a spokesman of the train company Arriva).
A meeting has been arranged for September to discuss the uniform issue.
